It saves the tooth, and it doesn't hurt
A root canal removes the infected nerve inside a tooth, cleans the canals and seals them, so the tooth stays instead of being pulled. Dr. Meera has an MDS in endodontics and does every root canal herself, under local anaesthetic.
It's for you if you have
- A toothache that wakes you at night
- Pain on hot or cold that lingers
- A swelling or pimple on the gum near one tooth
Root canal treatment, step by step
X-ray and numbing
We find the infected canals on the X-ray and numb the area fully before starting.
Clean and seal
The canals are cleaned and sealed in one or two sittings of 60 to 90 minutes.
Cap the tooth
A crown protects the tooth, fitted about a week later.

Questions about root canal treatment
Does a root canal hurt?
Not during the treatment: the area is numb. Expect mild soreness for a day or two, which a regular painkiller handles.
Can I go to work the same day?
Yes. Most people go back to work straight after. Avoid chewing on that side until the crown is fitted.
Is a crown always needed?
For back teeth, almost always, because a treated molar can crack under chewing. For front teeth, sometimes a filling is enough.
Results from root canal treatment
Saving a cracked molar instead of pulling it
The tooth is still in use a year later, with no pain on chewing.
